CABBAGETOWN is a historic neighborhood on the east side of Atlanta near Inman Park, Reynoldstown and Grant Park. As one of Atlanta’s most unique neighborhoods, you will find a mix of young families to creative types who thrive on living in this charming and character-filled community. Cabbagetown’s cultural heritage is one of Southern Appalachia, poor families who moved from the mountains of North Georgia to Atlanta to work in the textile mills. Like many mill towns of the day, streets were constructed to be narrow with short blocks and numerous intersections. Surrounding the factory was a neighborhood of small cottages and one-and two-story shotgun shacks, many of which have been renovated and restored for today’s lifestyle. After the mill closed in 1976, the neighborhood went into decline. The area was greatly overlooked until the early 1990s, when Cabbagetown was revitalized with the arrival of inspired artists and musicians. The community has been resilient over the years and is now more vibrant and alive than ever. With the developing Atlanta Beltline Trail meandering through, this popular neighborhood is sure to continue to thrive.
